The GEF/SRB Project covers the whole Senegal River basin towards a comprehensive and consistent management of a shared river basin, thereby making the 4 riparian countries its natural beneficiaries. This can be considered as the result of the four OMVS member States' political option for a so called «inclusive» approach. Finally, the process has led to involve G1uinea into the long standing cooperation process and, as a result, to make of that country a a full fledged partner in the joint management process. This is the context wherein Guinea's Accession Treaty of the OMVS was signed in March 2006. Apanicipatorv approach : Aproiect implemented bv and for the local communities For the purpose of achieving good governance in the field of water management, the members States have initiated a participatory approach ail the way from project inception and preparation through its current implementation stage. Initiated to develop this approach, the Public Information and Participation Component focused on the one hand to fully involve riparian populations in the project execution and to raise awareness and inform them about issues relating to the basin's environment and resources. The scientific community within the four members has also been involved in finding solutions to environmental degradation related problems.
