Component 1: Navigation on the Senegal River: Objectives • To ensure year-round navigability of the Senegal River over 905 km from Saint-Louis (in Senegal) to Ambidédi (in Mali) backstopped by a dozen ports and places of cali : Rosso– Mau ritania, Boghé, Kaédi, Richard-Tell, Podor, Cascas, Matam, Bakel ; • To develop a river transport system designed to impulse and manage massification of population movements and trade; • To organize an efficient intermodal transit at the level of ports, river ports of cali and wharves . Infrastructure to be constructed or rehabilitated: • Development of the river navigable channel: dredging and scaling of sills, construction of control and protection struc– tures, beaconing of the navigable channel, etc. • construction of places of cali: dredging of access areas to existing docks; rehabilitation of 4 places of cali; construc– tion of 4 points of cali and 7 wharves etc.; • Construction of the Ambidédi terminal port including: con– struction of a railway connection and a road Iink etc. • Construction of the Ambidédi te rminal port including: con- struction of a railway connection and a road link etc. • Construction of the Saint-Louis Sea - river port, including, on the one hand, construction of trade, fisheries and rec– reational ports and, on the other hand, construction of a dike to the north and of a breakwater to the south. These structures shall be combined with the construction of plat– forms (on the north dike for bulk carriers) and of a minera i ore platform on the south spur. • Combined developement of an approach channel at the mouth of the river (improvement and monitoring of the natural pass) and of another stabilized pass at the river mouth with protection structures of the approach channel and by-pass one. • Protection of river banks Construction cost of component 1 stands at : CFA.F 49.229 billion corresponding to U.5.$ 450 Million
