Master Plan for the Development of the Energy Transmission Network OMVS has prepared a Master Plan for the Development of the Energy Transmission Network to accommodate the expected increase in production, transmission, tradè and consumption of electricity in the medium and long term. It involves planning the progressive extension of the existing network white providing: .. Transport of the energy generated by OMVS future hydropower plants; .. Integration of member countries 'nat ional and regional energy development projects into the plan; .. Interconnection of the OMVS transmission network to national and regional grids, such as OMVG's (Organization for the Development of the Gambia . River). The Common Energy Policy To cope with the energy deficit, OMVSis developing a Common Energy Policy (CEP), 50 as to maximize investments in theenergy sector and provide energy service at the lowest cost to peop le, to industrial and commercial sectors. The CEP aims to define: .. An optimal development plan structured around the hydropower resources ofthe Senegal River Basin, the interconnection networks and programs to strengthen national capacities for production and transport of energy; .. A pricing policy for the exchange of energy; .. ,A coordinated institutional framework that build upon the interconnection of networks, the opening up of the market to private power producers and third parties' accessto interconnected networks; .. A development and management policy of existi ng and planned Fiber Optic ground cables (OPGW) throughout its entire network.
