Dépliant : Energy, The OMVS' strategic options 2014
the Manantali dam and its power plant OMVS' member States have very early leveraged on hydropower to reduce their energy deficit, diversifying sources of production, and promoting industrial development. An infrastructure program has been defined earlier to regulate river flows and produce low cost energy through the construction of hydropower dams. Studies have led to the identification of potential dam sites and their implementation start-up. Presently, OMVS has to its credit two hydropower facilities: ... The Manantali hydropower complex (the dam and its power plant, 2002) located on the Bafing . With an installed capacity of 200 MW, it produces an average of 800 GWh 1 year supplied to national electricity companies in Mali (52%), Mauritania (15%) and Senegal (33%) ... The Félou scheme (2013), which produces an average of 60 MW injected into the Manantali power grid. The energy generated is delivered to the States through the Manantali network of 1700 km long interconnected powe r transmission lines (RIMA). To date, the total installed capacity ofthe Manantali Network (RIMA) is 260Mw. The Manantali Energy Management and Operation Agency (SOGEM), established in January 1997 by the Member States, is entrusted with the management, operation, maintenance and replacements of Manantali and Jointly-owned Structures. Since 2004, an intensive programme of rural electrification to particular locations along the high tension lines has been implemented by OMVS to also enable the most disadvan taged to reap the benefits of dams.
